Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 14, 2026

Fruit Tree Coach is published by Moonstone Media Group ("we", "us"). This policy covers both our website (fruittreecoach.com) and our mobile app ("the app"). It explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

We built both to need as little about you as possible. There is no advertising, no tracking, and no analytics on the website or in the app. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for marketing.

Our website

Our website is mostly informational. The one place it collects anything is the waitlist signup, where you can give us your name and email address to be notified when the app launches and to receive occasional product updates. That is all it asks for, and we use it only for those two things.

Waitlist signups are delivered and stored by MailerLite, our email provider. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed and have your details deleted.

The website is served through Cloudflare and uses Google Fonts for typefaces. Like any web host and font service, these may record standard technical information such as your IP address to deliver the site securely. The site itself carries no advertising trackers and no analytics pixels.

What the app collects

Your account. When you create an account we collect your email address, a password, and the name you choose to display. Your password is stored only as a salted hash by our authentication provider, so we never see it.

Your gardening location. We collect the 5-digit US ZIP code you enter and the USDA hardiness zone we derive from it. This is the core of the app: every recommendation is timed to your zone, so without it the app cannot work.

Your trees and care activity. We store the trees you add (type, variety, nickname, age or planting date, and any notes you write), the care tasks generated for them, which tasks you mark done, and any notes you add when completing one.

Feedback you choose to send. The app has a feedback form (in Profile, and on error screens). If you use it, we receive your message along with a small amount of context that helps us actually fix the problem: the app version, your platform and OS version, your USDA zone, how many trees you have, and the screen you were on when you opened the form. The form shows you exactly what is attached before you send it, and nothing is sent unless you tap send. We do not collect any of this in the background, and we do not collect your device model.

That is the whole list. We do not collect your contacts, your health data, your payment information, or your browsing on other apps and websites.

About device location

The ZIP screen has an optional "Use my current location" button. If you tap it and grant permission, your device works out your approximate location and turns it into a ZIP code on the device itself, using Apple's or Google's built-in geocoder. We receive only the resulting ZIP code.

Your coordinates are never sent to us, never stored, and never leave your phone by our doing. We request approximate location only, not precise location. The button is entirely optional: typing your ZIP by hand works exactly the same, and declining the permission costs you nothing.

How we use it

We use what we collect to run the app and website, and nothing else:

  • to time care guidance to your zone,
  • to keep track of your trees and what you have done for them,
  • to send you a weekly reminder, if you turn reminders on,
  • to sign you in, and to send you a password-reset code when you ask for one,
  • to understand and fix a problem you report through the feedback form,
  • to notify you at launch and send product updates, if you joined the waitlist.

We do not use your information to profile you, target you, or train models.

Reminders

If you turn on reminders, they are scheduled and delivered on your device. The app does not register a push token and does not send your reminders through a server, so we cannot see what your phone reminds you of. Turning reminders off in your device settings or in the app stops them.

Who else touches your data

We keep the list of third parties short and use them only to run the app and website:

Who What they get Why
Supabase Your account, ZIP and zone, trees, tasks, completions, and any feedback you send Hosts our database and handles sign-in. This is where your app data lives.
phzmapi.org Your 5-digit ZIP code, and nothing else Looks up the USDA hardiness zone for that ZIP. No account, name, or device information is sent.
Postmark Your email address Delivers account emails such as password-reset codes.
MailerLite Your name and email address, if you join the waitlist Stores the waitlist and sends launch and product-update emails.
Cloudflare Standard technical data such as your IP address Serves and secures our website.
Google Fonts Standard technical data such as your IP address Provides the typefaces on our website.
Apple / Google Approximate location, if you use the location button Their built-in geocoder converts location to a ZIP on your device. They also distribute the app and handle its permissions.

None of these are permitted to use your information for their own purposes.

Amazon links. Some guides recommend tools and supplies, and those links open Amazon in your browser. We earn a commission if you buy, at no cost to you (the app says so next to the links). Once you leave the app, Amazon's own privacy policy applies, and we do not send Amazon anything about you or your trees. The links carry only our affiliate tag.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your data is protected by row-level database rules, so your account can only ever read and write its own rows. Your sign-in session is held in your device's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore). For the app to work offline and start fast, a copy of your own trees and tasks is cached on your device, and it is cleared when you sign out.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your information, we will tell you.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account exists, or, for the waitlist, until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.

You can delete your account at any time from Profile, under Account. Deleting is immediate and permanent: it removes your account, your orchard, your trees, your tasks, your care history, and any feedback you sent. We cannot undo it, and we do not keep a shadow copy. Backups age out on their own within a short retention window.

Your choices and rights

  • See and correct your information. Your account, ZIP, trees, and history are all visible in the app, and you can edit them yourself. Feedback you send is the one exception: it is one-way, so the app cannot show it back to you. Email us and we will tell you what you sent, or delete it.
  • Delete it. Profile, then Account, then Delete Account.
  • Leave the waitlist. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or email us.
  • Turn off location. Skip the location button, or revoke the permission in your device settings. Your ZIP still works.
  • Turn off reminders. In the app or in your device settings.
  • Ask us. Email hello@fruittreecoach.com and we will answer.

If you live in California: you have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, and to not be discriminated against for asking. We do not sell or share personal information, and we have not in the past 12 months. There is nothing to opt out of.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email hello@fruittreecoach.com and we will delete it.

Where the app works

Fruit Tree Coach is currently available for US locations only, because its guidance is built on USDA hardiness zones. Your information is stored on servers in the United States.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the effective date above, and we will tell you in the app if the change is significant.
